Project Background
Tanzania is one of the most important alluvial gold producing countries in Africa, with the Mwanza Region holding particularly rich placer gold resources. Most mining operations in this area are small-scale and mobile, as gold deposits are scattered and require frequent relocation of processing facilities.
Our client is a Canadian mining company operating multiple concessions in Tanzania. They had been using outdated, low-efficiency mobile equipment and faced four critical challenges:
- Poor mobility: Their previous plant required 2-3 weeks to disassemble and relocate, causing significant production downtime
- Low recovery rate: Traditional equipment could only recover 65-70% of gold, with fine-grained gold (<0.1mm) almost completely lost
- High clay content issues: The local ore contains 25-30% clay, which caused severe blockages and reduced separation efficiency
- Remote location challenges: No grid power supply, limited water resources, and lack of technical support in the mining area
The client required a fully modular mobile processing plant that could be quickly relocated between mining sites, efficiently process high-clay alluvial gold ore, and achieve a gold recovery rate of over 85% while operating independently in remote areas.
YTO Customized Solution
Based on the unique characteristics of Tanzanian alluvial gold ore and the client’s mobility requirements, YTO designed a fully integrated, skid-mounted mobile processing plant. The solution combines efficient clay removal technology with high-recovery gravity separation processes, requiring no chemical reagents and operating entirely on diesel power.
1. Core Equipment Configuration
The plant features a four-stage processing flow optimized for alluvial gold recovery:
- Scrubbing & Screening: 1× rotary scrubber + 1× trommel screen for effective clay removal and classification
- Primary Recovery: 8× YTO-JT2-2 diaphragm jig machines for recovering coarse gold particles (>0.3mm)
- Secondary Recovery: 6× YTO-LL1200 spiral chutes for recovering medium-grained gold (0.1-0.3mm)
- Final Concentration: 12× YTO-6S-1100 shaking tables for recovering fine-grained gold (<0.1mm)
- Power System: 2× diesel generators providing independent power supply for the entire plant
2. Mobility & Site Condition Optimization
- 100% Modular Design: All equipment is mounted on standard 20ft and 40ft container skids, requiring no permanent civil works
- Rapid Relocation: The entire plant can be disassembled, transported and reassembled in just 3 days by 4-5 workers
- High-Clay Adaptation: The rotary scrubber uses high-pressure water jets to break down clay aggregates, preventing equipment blockages
- Water Recycling System: Equipped with a closed-loop water recycling system that recovers 85% of process water, ideal for water-scarce areas
- Tropical Climate Protection: All electrical components are IP65 rated, with heat dissipation systems for 40-45℃ operating temperatures
3. Capacity & Efficiency Guarantee
- Automated Operation: PLC control system for feeding, water flow and separation processes, requiring only 3-4 operators per shift
- Low Energy Consumption: Total power consumption of only 45kW, significantly reducing fuel costs in remote areas
- Flexible Capacity: Adjustable processing capacity from 200 to 350 t/d to match different mining site conditions
- Integrated Gold Room: On-site gold room with smelting equipment for producing final gold bars directly at the mine
Project Operation Results
Since commissioning in October 2025, the mobile plant has been operating continuously and has been relocated twice to different mining sites, with each relocation completed in less than 3 days. All performance indicators have exceeded the client’s expectations:
| Technical Indicator | Client Target | Actual Operation Result | Improvement |
| Gold Recovery Rate (>0.3mm) | 85% | 92% | +7% |
| Overall Gold Recovery Rate | 80% | 85% | +5% |
| Daily Processing Capacity | 300 t | 300-350 t | 0-17% |
| Relocation Time | 7 days | 2-3 days | -57-71% |
| Monthly Downtime | ≤5 days | ≤1 day | -80% |
| Number of Operators | 8 per shift | 3-4 per shift | -50-62% |
Economic Benefits:
- Daily gold production: 90-120 grams
- Annual gold production: approximately 30-40 kg
- Annual revenue: approximately 1.8-2.4 million USD
- Total investment payback period: less than 8 months
Client Testimonial
“This mobile plant has completely transformed our operations in Tanzania. Before working with YTO, we were losing a lot of fine gold and spending weeks relocating our equipment every time we moved to a new site. Now we can pack up and be operational at a new location in just 3 days. The recovery rates are excellent, even with the high clay content in our ore. YTO’s technical team provided excellent on-site training and support, and the equipment has been extremely reliable despite the harsh conditions. We are already planning to order a second identical plant for our new concession in the Lake Victoria region.”—— Mr. David Smith, Operations Manager
